I’m not perfect, I love handfuls of animal crackers or cheese its on the regular…true story!  But I do get asked quite often about my favorite and/or recommended snacks for the fat loss lifestyle.  

Bottom line is that if it’s not simple then it won’t happen. If you have to make gourmet foods and get in the kitchen for hours each time you want to eat, chances are you’ll fail. In order to keep those long term and sustainable results, it has to be SIMPLE!!! The process has to be simple.

There are so many options out there, but here is a list I compiled of my personal favorite and SIMPLE fat loss snacks!

Apple with Nut Butter

Apples are a year round staple in our house aaaaand so is peanut butter 😉 So it makes it pretty easy for one of my favorite fat loss snacks. If you aren’t a peanut butter fan you can use almond butter or cashew butter, whatever your heart desires. I use a smaller apple and will do one of two things. The first is to simply slice the apple and then put a couple of tablespoons of Peanut Butter in a dish to use as a dip.  That’s the most obvious way of course.  But sometimes I will chop up an apple and then heat up a couple of tablespoons of PB and drizzle over the apple chunks.  It just makes it last longer and is something different! 

Celery with Guacamole

Chips and Guac is a Texas staple y’all. So it’s no surprise that it’s a favorite of mine. BUT chips aren’t always the best route to take and if there’s a simple alternative then I’m in!  When I ’m really trying to stay on track, I ’ll substitute the chips for some celery sticks.  It satisfies the crunch and I  still get to indulge on the guacamole.  I  like buying the single serve containers of guacamole because I  tend to not know when to quit!  This keeps me in check so that I  don’t eat my weight in the avocado goodness!!! If you aren’t a celery person, try carrot chips! They’re a great alternative and keep the crunch for the satisfying dipping routine and an ideal fat loss snack.

Nut Mix

Trail mix is always a simple fat loss snack. But buying the pre-made ones can be LOADED with hidden sugars that you don’t even realize. So I like to make my own little concoction…nothing fancy but SIMPLE. I like to buy unsalted almonds and cashews and then add some dried cranberries to the mix.  I  don’t add a lot of the dried fruit to the mix, I  like to have it heavier on the nuts and light on the sugar.  If you don’t like cranberries, maybe choose a different type of dried fruit!

Greek Yogurt Crunch

I don’t do much dairy but this is one of my fave treats as a fat loss snack!  A small personal container of plain greek yogurt and then add about 1/4 cup of blueberries along with some sliced almonds.  You get the sweetness from the blueberries and the crunch with the almonds and it actually satisfies those sweet tooth cravings. Perfect fat loss snack in a bowl!

Protein Bars

There are LOTS of protein bars out there…many are so delicious you’d swear it was a snickers bar!  And quite honestly, they contain just as many calories and sugar as one but they’re marketed with genius to convince you they’re healthy.  I  personally go for more fat loss friendly bars.  Those with less than 10g of net carbs are my go to!!!  A couple of my faves include Quest and Think Thin.

Mug Cake with Peanut Butter

This can be so decadent and DELISH!  Here’s the way I personally like to make mine:


1 egg

2 Tbsp. almond milk

1 scoop Chocolate Shakeology

1 Tbsp. cocoa powder

¼ tsp. baking powder (I didn’t have any and it was still good!)

1 Tbsp. peanut butter (or almond butter)


In bowl, beat egg and add almond milk. Stir until well-mixed.

Add Shakeology, cocoa powder, baking powder. Stir until mixture forms a batter.

Spray a large, microwave-safe mug with cooking spray. Pour in batter.

Microwave for approximately 1 minute. I check the mug cake after like 45 seconds because I like mine a little gooey if possible!

When done, turn out onto a plate, top with peanut butter and enjoy! In a pinch, you can eat your mug cake right out of the mug!


It’s no secret that I am a huge Shakeology fan…it changed my life more than 10 years ago and is still my go to for superfood nutrition. I  prefer a vegan protein base and this fits the bill.  I’ll mix it with ice, water, 1/4 banana, avocado chunks, and various low sugar fruits. Sometimes I’ll add some spinach or turmeric or other things if I feel I’ve been lacking.  But my basic way is just as mentioned.  You can get a full guide to my fave smoothie recipes HERE!!!

Cocoa Dusted Almonds and Small Orange

This is SUCH a simple fat loss snack and perfect for on the go.  Emerald makes personal packets of cocoa dusted almonds that you can stash in your car or purse.  They’re like 100 calories and perfectly portioned. Then I’ll grab one of those cutie oranges to peel and mix with it.  Chocolate and orange is actually pretty dang tasty together! 

 Veggies and Hummus

I  love cucumbers….the cold crunchiness is so refreshing for me!  So that’s one of my favorite veggies to dip into hummus as a fat loss snack.  Others are sliced bell peppers which are loaded with Vitamin C and antioxidants.  Making sure to have some of these veggies washed and cut up in the refrigerator will make it super simple to grab and go.  I  know that if I  have to do extra work, I  won’t do it, so simplicity is KEY!

Eating for fat loss does NOT have to be complicated. 

Fat loss snacks can be pretty simple. Keep some great snacks on hand and you’ll be so surprised at how you will start to crave some of these things instead of your regular chips and dips or cookies 😉  Don’t be a martyr though, if you want a handful of animal crackers, grab ‘em!  Just don’t eat the full container and make sure you let your kiddos have some 😉
